In Chapter 6 of Beyond Feelings, Ruggiero states that “to state an opinion is to tell others what we thing about something” (72). However, for the past 4 weeks we have examined  how our opinions are influenced by various unstable factors, and if left to our emotions and social contexts, opinions can be significantly biased, and therefore, potentially dangerous.

In Ruggiero this week, you have read about opinions and evidence. On page 80 of Chapter 6, the author articulates the criteria by which we are to assess evidence. Using that criteria, answer the following questions.

a) How might the criteria on page 80 conflict with the way that our culture cultivates “opinions” and “truths”?

b) What aspects of the last four weeks have given you a different perspective on the way you view the world or consume information or cultivate your opinion? How might you use it to make important decisions this year about various issues?
