Biological theories of crime can become controversial when examining some procedures for reducing crime. For example, one biological theory that hormones are a major contributor to aggressive crimes might support the mandatory sterilization of convicted offenders as a way to reduce certain deviant and criminal behavior. The U.S. Supreme Court at one time upheld sterilization of convicted criminals.
What are the issues surrounding mandatory sterilization of offenders? Are there certain types of criminals or crimes for which you think mandatory sterilization might be appropriate? Support your opinions using examples.
