Facebook apologizes for allowing Russian ads to interfere with 2016 campaign

COO: Company must "prevent everything we can from this happening on our platforms."

Sheryl Sandberg COO of Facebook meet with members of Congress recently. Two accounts that Facebook Inc. said appear to have ties to Russian operatives amassed more than half a million followers in the past couple of years with posts, ads and events that stoked strong emotions over issues including race and immigration. Most followers did not know that people with possible Russian ties were behind these accounts.

Describe ways in which companies and specifically employees working for a business nowadays in a digital environment can be more aware of who their customers are, what their motivation is in doing business and how they can protect themselves from incidents that may harm them and more importantly others. We keep hearing the term “fake news,” with the increased prevalence of social media platforms to disseminate news and information how can we as consumers know what is real?
