One of the most important issues in ancient art today is the question of ownership. There are millions of artifacts that have survived from ancient civilizations, their original context is lost forever, and they have usually changed hands over the years. The question of who they belong to does not have a simple answer. In most cases the original owners cannot be said to have direct descendants that can claim them. Read the excerpts presented here that address these issues and then post a comment which briefly summarizes their arguments and includes what you think is the right approach to take in the question of who owns antiquity.
