The HR selection process
Bobby
As an HR professional, I would keep the selection process simple especially when HR is recruiting of behalf of the organization. The selection criteria must be in line with the organization's mission or vision. The criteria should also be approved the senior leadership in order to ensure expectations are being met. Although qualifications are important, character would be where I would focus. Mr. Brito believes that employees should not view themselves as professionals or executives but as owners of the company. (Brito, C, 2010). Qualifications will most likely get the interview so I would focus on their goals, passion, and expertise. If they are self motivated, driven to excellence, and how they made an impact on previous organizations, community or family. Taking ownership and responsibility will ensure the organization is successful. In the Army we focus on Soldiers meeting qualifications, not always the best way but most tough duty assignments are an indicator of excellence. Not everyone is qualified nor wants to do those tough duty assignments. For example Drill Sergeant School is not easy and Drill Sergeant work crazy long hours and going to Airborne School is totally voluntary. Being a Drill Sergeant or Airborne qualified automatically identifies you as an exceptionally Soldier and puts you in the top 10% of your profession. This is why qualifications in the Army can be a discriminator for promotions. Special qualifications also lead to tougher leadership assignments that groom Soldiers for the senior level leadership positions.
