Discussion Board #1- Evidence-Based Nutrition Information
8585 unread replies.8585 replies.
As we learned in class, science and evidence-based information should be always considered when investigating about nutrition. We also learned that credible information should come from sources such as governmental sites, peer reviewed journals, non-profit organizations, universities, etc.
Using a peer-review journal source, write a one-to-two paragraph summary on a recent (2018- present) nutritional topic of your interest and give your opinion on the credibility of the article, mention the type of research study (epidemiology, laboratory study, animal study, clinical trial), and discuss the results of the article you found. What were the major weaknesses and strengths that prevailed in the article? How would you apply those results to your life? Cite your article using AMA or upload it as a PDF in order to receive full credit.
Examples: Plant-based diets and cardiovascular health, ketogenic diet and weight loss, intermittent fasting, etc.
If you have doubts on how to access a peer reviewed article. I have listed some steps on accessing databases where you can find peer-reviewed articles.
You can find Peer Review Journals using our prestigious FIU library:
1. https://library.fiu.edu/ (Links to an external site.)
2. Click on Research: Start (Links to an external site.)
3. Click on A-Z Databases (Links to an external site.)
4. Under "All Subjects" Tab, Select Dietetics and Nutrition (Links to an external site.) (As a subject)
5. You can select from the different Databases available to search for your peer-reviewed article. "Best-bets" Databases are the most trusted sources. (Links to an external site.) AGRICOLA (ProQuest) (Links to an external site.) , MEDLINE (ProQuest) [1950 - present] (Links to an external site.) are examples.
6. Once you select the database you want to use to search for your peer-reviewed article, you will have to login with your FIU username and password.
7. Once you login, then you can search your article and you can be sure it will be from a credible source!
8. You can search for keywords that you want your article to be focused on. You can also adjust the date ranges that you want your search on (you don't want your article to be older than 2018).
You must post your article before seeing other replies. If you submit a random reply without any content (period, comma, etc.), you will not receive credit for your submission.
