Discussion 2: Variables Predictive of Success in Reentry and Reintegration

Criminal justice policies, community responses, availability of resources, and access to appropriate assessments and treatment settings have a significant impact on an individual's likelihood to successfully reenter or reintegrate into the community. As helping professionals, you must be aware of how these issues impact your clients. You also must become knowledgeable of the biopsychosocial variables that predict whether or not your client is likely to break or to continue the cycle of recidivism or revictimization.

Some biopsychosocial variables have proven to have stronger predictive ability than others, depending on the population and the issue under examination. Every individual will be affected by these variables to a greater or lesser degree according to the circumstances. Helping professionals must be aware of these variables and how they relate to the individuals they work with in order to appropriately tailor interventions and programs.

Identify two variables that are predictive of successful reentry related to the specific population you selected for your Final Project. Be sure to use the week’s Resources in identifying these variables.

Discuss how these variables are predictive of successfully breaking the cycle of violence for your specific victim or offender population you selected.
