As you read through Chapter 8 in the Ehrlich book, you see that he describes three events and society's reactions to them: the 1992 civic disorder in Los Angeles following the Rodney King beating and the subsequent acquittal of the four police officers; the 1999 shooting at Columbine High School; and the 2005 response to the predominantly minority victims of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.
Given the information that Ehrlich provides about how to view these societal responses, what do you think would have been better responses? Think in the long term. If you were a policy maker, what policies would you propose to any one of these incidents that would have had a more lasting, positive effect on the victims? (Remember covictimization as well, that many people are victims just through knowing about what other victims went through.)
No need to respond to all three -- you can pick one situation and respond just to it.
