Donald Trump was elected president in November 2016 despite losing the popular vote by upwards roughly 2.9 million votes. The second election in 20 years of a president who failed to receive a majority of the popular vote has led to renewed calls to abolish the electoral college. Recently, several Democratic presidential candidates have called for the Electoral College to be abolished. The following article discusses this issue briefly.
