For this week's discussion post, I'm asking you to explore the topic for the next unit, which is 'Community'. It is a word/concept that seems to be everywhere these days. Here are some questions to consider for this discussion:

What does 'community' mean to you?

What 'communities' are you a part of? This can be very official as in you actively participate in some sense in this community or perhaps you are a member by proxy (based on your background/identity/interests).

What do communities do for people? What benefits come from being part of a community? Think about a community you belong to - what does it do for you?

Share a 'community' you belong to - what is it? Describe the community and what makes you a part of it? What are the shared 'goals' of this community? What is your 'role' in this community?

Keep in mind that communities can be very 'formal' in a sense based on aspects of our identity/experience (Cascadia student community/LGBTQ community/Military Veterans) or more 'informal' based on our interests/hobbies (Seahawk fans, fishing club, music community). If you struggle to identify communities you belong to, explore what communities are available to students at Cascadia/UWB (student groups or clubs). Find out about one or two and report back here.
