you will find some reference to a now-dated research project by William Chambliss called Saints and Roughnecks. Basically the premise is that a budding sociologist goes into a high school and observed teenage boy deviant behavior through cliques and the rest is history.  My high school students love reading this work because they can make reference to their experiences...In the end, Hanibal High School is no different than any high school in America, and to a certain degree, our society as a whole.

Please read the passage below (give yourself some time), refer to the guide questions, and make your initial post.

Is the saints and rednecks premise consistent in any high school?

Is there a connection to criminal and societal profiling across America?

Based on this research, is there credence to the notion that the labeling theory is a self-fulfilling prophesy?

Is this research flawed?
