For this discussion, you will reflect on how care, culture, identity, and lived experience shape instructional design. Drawing from  McConnell, Conrad, and Uhrmacher’s chapter on the behaviorist approach to lesson planning and  Noddings’ “Care and Coercion in School Reform,” consider how teachers can design instruction that is both intellectually purposeful and responsive to the students in front of them.

In your video, address the following:

1. How should teachers account for students’ cultural, linguistic, academic, or social-emotional needs when designing instruction?

2. What does it mean to design instruction with care?

3. How can instruction remain academically rigorous while also being responsive to students’ identities and experiences?

4. What is one example of an instructional decision that reflects both care and high expectations?

Initial Video Post Instructions

Submit a  4–6 minute video recording as your initial post. Your response should reference the readings and include a concrete example of how a teacher, school leader, or instructional designer might make instruction more responsive to students.
