 In this module, we considered the evaluation hierarchy in detail, including its logic and benefits. Mears illustrates how the different types of evaluation can be used to take stock of the state of criminal justice policy today, and how they can improve the accountability and effectiveness of the criminal justice system.

In this week's discussion, think carefully and post your thoughts about this question: What challenges might confront evaluators in their efforts to assess policies? If you were conducting this type of evaluation, what would your biggest concern be? Alternatively, as a tax-paying member of the public, what would you want or expect from evaluators working in this area?
