Module 1 | Discussion: Professional Identity - Group 3

 Professional Identity

Professional nursing identity forms the cornerstone of effective practice, and understanding how historical events have shaped our profession helps you articulate your unique contributions to healthcare. This discussion will help you explore your personal professional journey while connecting it to nursing's rich history and the theoretical frameworks that guide professional development.

Instructions

Please respond to all discussion prompts below in a single comprehensive post, then reply to at least one peer's response.

· Initial post due: Wednesday by 11:59 p.m. ET

· Reply post due: Sunday by 11:59 p.m. ET

· Per the rubric, you are required to use at least 1 scholarly article to support both your initial post and your response — journal articles only. The textbook does not count as a scholarly article.

· All sources must be cited and referenced in APA format.

· You must also submit one document containing a screenshot of the first page of each source used. Sources listed without a corresponding screenshot will earn zero for that portion of the rubric.

Discussion Prompts

Please address all of the following in your initial post:

Professional Identity and Purpose

· Answer the question "What do nurses do?"

· Which nurse from The American Nurse film do you relate to most, and why?

Historical Foundation

· How does nursing's history inform your understanding of current nursing practice?

Professional Socialization

· Using key concepts from Cohen's and Benner's socialization models, describe your own professional socialization journey thus far.

Contemporary Challenges

· Identify three nursing dilemmas or problems that you think are the most urgent and concerning for the nursing profession. Why do you feel these dilemmas require attention? What could happen if we don't address these issues?

· NOTE: This prompt will help you select a topic for your scholarly research paper.
