The impacts of foreign aid and multinational corporations are highly case dependent and can be difficult to generalize. In this assignment, you should chose a developing country and do some investigative research into their experience with foreign aid and MNCs. The various parts of the assignment are laid out below. 

INTRODUCTION – 2 points

Briefly describe the country, including its location, population size and World-bank income classification.

FOREIGN AID

Description – 3 points

- How much foreign aid does this country receive, on average?

- What percentage of their GDP does that represent?

- Who are the major donor countries? 

- What form does the aid generally take? 

Impacts - 5 points

- What are some positive impacts of this aid? You should include concrete examples. 

- What are some negative impacts of this aid? You should include concrete examples. 

The relative length of these two sections should be determined by their relative importance in the country you are researching (e.g. if there are more positive impacts, the section on positive impacts should be longer).

Suggestions – 3 points

- What recommendation would you make specifically for this country to improve the effectiveness of foreign aid? 

MULTI-NATIONAL CORPORATIONS

Description – 3 points

- Which MNCs operate in the country you have chosen and which industries are they active in?

- What can you find out about the kind of deals these companies have made with the local government?

Impacts – 5 points

- What are some positive impacts of these companies? You should include concrete examples. 

- What are some negative impacts of these companies? You should include concrete examples.

CONCLUSION – 4 points

Briefly discuss the role foreign aid and multinational corporations are playing in the economic development of the country you have chosen.
