Deeper exploration

Instructions: This assignment is less about personal application and rather requires you to dig deeper into a topic of your choosing which we have discussed or that you have read about this term and draft a paper of your findings and conclusions.

Step 1: Select a Topic

You may choose to exam any topic which we have covered in class or that you have read in your course textbook this term. If you would like to study a concept of nonverbal communication which we have not covered (or are going to cover), please get your topic approved by me first.

I recommend keeping your topics broad as you begin your research. By doing this, you won’t limit your research findings. Remember that some terms we have discussed in class may go by other names in research studies so you may have to dig.

Step 2: Research

Research and find out what the literature says about your chosen topic. You must find a minimum of 8 credible resources on your specific subject. 5 resources must be peer reviewed scholarly journal articles published between 2013-2018. If you have difficulty finding information on your topic, I would first encourage you to broaden your subject. If you are still having difficulties finding subject specific articles, contact a reference librarian for guidance.

Once you have located your articles and research, read them! Take notes on surprising details and important information you can decipher from your findings.

Step 3: Write

Write a paper about your findings. The paper should be between 6-8 pages and following basic and syllabus writing guidelines. (Make sure to watch your spacing between paragraphs!)*These 6-8 pages are in addition to your works cited/references page.

Paper Structure:

-Introduction-What did you choose to research and why? What will your paper cover?

-Literature Review-Walk me through your research. What literature did you find about your chosen topic? What does it say? (Don’t forget in-text citations!)

-Lessons Learned/Classroom Connection-Based on what you researched, what we have discussed in class, and what you have read, what have your learned and why is it important? Can you apply anything you found to your life? What surprised you in your findings?

-Conclusions-Wrap it all up!

-Works Cited/References Page-MLA or APA Format
