Dealing With Interpersonal Conflict

With any personal relationship, there is the potential for conflict. Whether it is in the workplace or in a person’s home life, conflict often occurs. In fact, it should be seen as natural and unavoidable in some respects.

Because this is the case, think about a time in which you had a conflict with someone and reflect on the following:

• What was the cause of the conflict? Was it one of the fundamental causes that often lead to conflict?
• How did you handle it? Was it the best way to handle it, or are there techniques that you should have used instead? What would one of those techniques be?
• What is your understanding and view toward conflict now? Is conflict something that should be seen as natural?
