DB: Reducing a Prison’s Budget

Overview: 

For this assignment, you will be discussing the consequences of using early prison release as a way to reduce a prison’s budget.

Instructions:

As noted earlier in this chapter, correction officials are reducing prison budgets by releasing nonviolent offenders before their sentences are finished. 

In your paper, answer the following questions: 

• What is your opinion of this strategy as a budget reducer? 

• What might be some of the consequences of large-scale early-release programs for drug dealers and those convicted of property crimes?

• Choose one option that makes more sense to you. Explain why.
