My family celebrates Thanksgiving which is every year at the end of November. We have celebrated Thanksgiving for generations passed down from our ancestors. The origins of our Thanksgiving celebration are rooted in our national heritage. It is a holiday observed by Americans across the country. Thanksgiving originated as a harvest festival in colonial America. It has evolved into a day of giving thanks and sharing a festive meal with loved ones.

On Thanksgiving Day our family gathers at my mom’s house, and we all eat dinner that is prepared by my mom, and, my sisters, brothers and I all bring a side. We usually have turkey as the main dish and stuffing as one of the sides every year. My mom’s husband makes his famous green bean casserole that everyone in my family loves. Last year though my daughter and I decided to do something different for Thanksgiving and we drove to Tennessee and stayed at a hotel for a couple of days and went out to eat and spent time with just her and I. She decided to make bookmarks for the local police station. We dropped them off for them before we left and she wrote them a letter saying thank you for keeping everyone safe.

In our family we have celebrated Christmas for many generations and continue to celebrate as a family today. We are Christians and as such we celebrate Christmas to mark Jesus Christ's Birthday. We celebrate on December 25th each year. Normally, we start decorating and preparing for this special day after Thanksgiving by putting up a Christmas tree and decorating it with special ornaments that each have a different meaning to our family. Some were handed down from other family members and some are new each year to continue our tradition. On Christmas day, we get dressed up in our nicest clothes and go to church as a family to celebrate Jesus' birth together. After church, we open some gifts, go to a movie and have a big meal with a birthday cake for Jesus after dinner. In our family the kids have always baked the cake and decorated it. A few foods that are always on the table for this meal are ham, potatoes and green bean casserole. We bake our ham with pineapple and maple for flavor. Our potatoes are always cheesy and mashed and the green bean casserole is topped with French onions to add a crunch. Another special tradition for Christmas day is to play the piano and sing our favorite Christmas hymns together. My Mom, myself and my daughter all play piano well and usually will take turns leading a few songs. This is a very special time of our day and something I pray my children will continue with their families when they are grown.

Originating from a proclamation signed by Governor Raul Castro in 1977, this occasion holds a special place in our hearts as a day dedicated to strengthening familial bonds. While we don't have a specific religious or cultural origin for this celebration, it's deeply rooted in our appreciation for the ties that bind us together as a family.

Each year, we come together on the first Sunday in August to mark American Family Day with heartfelt gatherings and meaningful activities. Our celebrations often begin with a leisurely outdoor picnic, where we enjoy classic American dishes like grilled burgers and hot dogs, symbolizing the essence of summer and togetherness. Another favorite tradition is a friendly game of backyard baseball, where laughter and friendly competition abound, fostering camaraderie among family members of all ages.

In addition to these outdoor festivities, our American Family Day celebrations also include moments of reflection and gratitude. We take the time to share stories and memories, honoring the generations that came before us and the values they instilled in our family. As the day draws to a close, we gather around a bonfire to roast marshmallows and share dreams and aspirations for the future, reaffirming our commitment to supporting and uplifting one another. It has always been joy doing it with my family, and I hope it continues for ages
