Assignment 1

I would like for you to identify something related to crime that you would like to analyze using the course materials. It can be a true crime event, a famous criminal, a documentary, a podcast, a real-world problem, or anything related to crime. In 500 words or less, please answer the following questions:

● Why did you choose this topic? ● Why should society care about it? ● What are you hoping to learn about it?

Assignment 2

Identify five (5) articles about the crime phenomenon you selected for Assignment #1. Two of the five articles MUST come from an academic journal. For each article, you must provide the following:

● The proper ASA citation ● A link to the article ● A summary of the article, and ● An explanation of how it helps you understand the subject of study

You must provide no more than 1,250 words (4-5 pages) of writing, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins, and in 12-point Calibri or New York Times font.

Assignment 3

Select two theoretical frameworks to analyze your criminal phenomenon. By this point in the semester, we will have already studied several major theories of crime. Please select two theories that help explain the phenomenon you selected and provide the following:

● A summary of the theories as you understand them ● An explanation of how they explain your criminal phenomenon. ● A critique of what the theory fails to consider.

You must provide no more than 500 words (2 pages) of writing, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins, and in 12-point Calibri or New York Times font.
