Instructions: Write a report narrative about the scenario below. Remember the fundamental steps in narrative reporting.
Scenario: At 1:30pm today, you were dispatched to 11 Clover Lane. When you arrived, you saw Karen Billing (WF, DOB 02/10/1999) standing in her front yard talking to a woman (WF, later identified as Joan Murray DOB 11/23/1932) in a blue bathrobe and bedroom slippers.
Karen told you that she had gone outside to mail a letter. She saw Joan Murray walking along the sidewalk, looking, anxiously from side to side. She looked lost. Karen asked for her name and address, but Joan didn't respond. She kept talking about wanting to find her canary, Buttermilk. Karen moved into the neighborhood recently and did not recognize Joan. She called the police.
While you and Karen were talking, a man came running along the sidewalk, waving his hands. He grabbed Joan's hand and explained that that he was her husband (Stephen Murray, DOB 05/15/1930). Joan has Alzheimer's. She apparently opened the front door and walked out of the house.
You gave Stephen the telephone number for Elder Services and instructed him to install a hook and eye on all doors to prevent Joan from leaving the house again. Stephen escorted Joan to their home at 35 Clover Lane.
Why is it important to write the narrative report so that it can be easily understood? What are the consequences of an incomplete and/or grammatically incorrect report?
