Discussion Board #1: Ranking Values
Initial Post due by: Wednesday 7/8/2026
Response Post due by: Sunday 7/12/2026
Instructions (I have attached resources for this assignment)
Your values are crucial to resolving ethical dilemmas. It is important to be aware of what your values are and how they effect your decision making. It is also important to consider how your values align with your profession.
Rank the following values in order of importance, with #1 representing the most important value to you, and so on. Then I would like for you to explain why you choose your #1 value (most important) and why you choose your #21 value (least important). Once you rank your values I would like for you to write one paragraph (4 to 6 sentences) that includes what your current profession is or what profession you would like to eventually be in and how your values would align with that profession.
I have included a page below that explains a few of the values in the event you need any clarification on what a particular value means.

Take the time to see how your values align with those of your classmates. You have to respond to at least ONE of your classmates for this post. I want the interaction to be meaningful and not just simply "I agree or disagree".

After numerous drafts, I found autonomy to come out to be my #1 Value. I understand autonomy to be the ability to live out according to principles one has reasoned out for themselves. I have lived through a wide range of experiences, and I have always taken time to reflect on what each moment had made me feel. Based off those feelings, I refine my thoughts and beliefs, which affects my decision making. Being able to choose which direction I grow in means a lot to me, because I value my life greatly. My list resulted in having Recognition ranked last. It's a nice feeling to be recognized - but at the end of the day I always know when I've tried my best and have given it my all. That's generally enough for me. I have recently signed on to be a software engineer at a bank. This is a role that requires problem solving, order and clear communication. I see this role deepening my understanding of systems, which relates to cause and effect. I believe that cause and effect is a theme connected to wisdom. The role will also expose me to new knowledge that can be added to my resume. Being able to grow my resume is a positive thing for my career. By managing my career well, I can support my family, which brings me closer to what I see success to be.
