course goal
Our goals in this course are to gain a greater comprehension of U.S. history, the field of history, and the skills necessary to succeed at the collegiate level and beyond. These goals are divided into two main categories: historical thinking and academic expertise. We will focus on acquiring and/or improving on skills necessary to develop each. These goals are based on the assumption that in order to understand how past events shaped the world we inhabit we must learn and practice how to gather diverse perspectives and develop complex comprehensions. History depends on who tells it and what viewpoint they bring to the topic, but it is also contingent on who gathers it. In this course, we will engage multiple points of view, construct our comprehensions, and attempt to develop fuller understandings of U.S. history.
