Conflict Resolution Assignment
You can prepare yourself for this assignment by reading Chapter 8: Communication and Conflict; and Chapter 7: Gaining Personal Insight.
There are five modes of conflict management described in our text: avoiding, accommodating, competing, compromising, and collaborating (p. 185). Understanding how people react to conflict is the first step to resolving it. As nurses, we see, participate in, and resolve (or not) conflict every day. Is there an easier way to resolve our conflicts? Of course there is!
For this assignment, you will consider a conflict that occurred in your real nursing setting. You will describe the conflict in detail and then resolve the conflict using the 5 modes of conflict resolution. Next, you will select the best mode of conflict resolution for the conflict you described from practice and what the expected outcome should be.
***In addition to an introductory paragraph with a purpose statement and a conclusions or summary paragraph, the main points to cover in this paper are:
1. Introduction with Purpose Statement. Introduce the topic, include an overview of the 5 modes of conflict resolution with a reference, and add a purpose statement.
For ex: The purpose of this paper is to ……..
2. A Detailed Description of the Conflict. Describe the conflict in detail, the person(s) involved, and state the ethical or legal nature of the conflict.
3. How the Conflict was Originally Handled: How the conflict was managed by the persons involved in the conflict and the nursing administration, and if the conflict led to any change (describe the change and outcome). Which modes were used in the original conflict?
4. 5 Modes of Conflict Resolution Explained/Application. The 5 modes of conflict resolution are explained and referenced. Each of the modes of resolution is applied individually to the conflict and an outcome is projected. At least 1 reference is used.
5. Select the Best Mode (Solution) to resolve the conflict based on the 5 modes of conflict resolution you presented. Include the rationale for your selection.
6. Communication. A detailed explanation of how communication affected the initial conflict and a detailed explanation of how communication affected the conflict resolution. Provide a reference with in-text citation that supports the explanation.
7. Summary or Conclusions Paragraph. The major points of the paper are recounted. Beginning with the conflict, 5 modes, conflict resolution. No new information is added at this point.
Be sure to include at least 3 published, peer-reviewed references from the online library published in the last 5 years. Do not use blogs, websites, or other sources of information for this assignment. You may use your textbook as 1 of the 3 references.
APA 7th ed is required for this assignment.

Rainer and Schneider (2020) stated that nurses not speaking up is concerning for three reasons:
Nurses not speaking up can result in patient harm.
Nurses are in a key position to speak up for patients.
Nursing as a profession has a strong moral and ethical imperative for patient advocacy.
10
Strengths
StrengthsFinder 2.0
One of the most tested tools to help people determine their talents for developing strengths.
The key with strengths is to capitalize on those that are your talents and to surround yourself with people with other talents that “fill in” the total set of talents needed to accomplish work.
11
Becoming An Authentic Leader
Focus on honest relationships
Value what each person brings to help
Trusting relationships
12
Quintuple Aim
Enhancing patient experience
Improving population health
Reducing costs
Improving work-life of care providers
13
Conclusion
Being complacent is not an option.
Seeking new insights, using established tools, and wanting to do one’s best and what is right are lifelong habits that allow each of us to develop our full potential.
