What housing options does she have? What transportation options does she have? What financial options does she have as the victim of crime (think victim surcharge fees) How will you ensure her release back into the community is safe? What tools or resources are available outside of policing that can assist her? Who are the community stakeholders to assist her? 3. MENTAL HEALTH OUTREACH OFFICER You work in a criminal investigation branch and are looking into a matter that involves a 55-year-old lady who is living in assisted housing and has been evicted A criminal has cleaned out her life savings and charged thousands to a credit card (her only savings) She has a 30-year-old drug-dependent son who is your suspect. He has a history of assaulting her, stealing from her, and being arrested one month prior after he gave her a serious concussion and threw her down the stairs. The senior is currently living on the street and is not in good health You are dispatched to apprehend her, as she has declining health. You apprehend her under the Mental Health Act to prevent her from freezing in the street as she can't care for herself. The hospital discharges her and does not keep her as her mental health is a slow decline and not presently posing a danger to herself or others. She is diagnosed with dementia, and bipolar What resources exist for housing? What financial options exist to assist her? Her behavior is not criminal however you are worried she could become a danger to herself or others if not assisted What community stakeholders exist to help mental health clients? What can you do with the son? As an investigator and mental health officer how can you advocate for the female and find a solution to ensure she is not in harm or tying up limited police resources?
