Politics often asks us to support a candidate we don’t always agree with, or only agree with a handful of their beliefs. Perhaps we like the candidate’s stances on issues but not them as a person. Understanding this internal dilemma explain the concepts of balance theory and cognitive dissonance theory. Do you have a low tolerance for imbalance (do you have red lines that cannot be crossed) or can you separate the candidate as a person from their policies? What cognitive strengths do you bring when dealing with efforts to persuade you?
