Annaliese, I agree that we are helping to join the fight with filling valuable roles in our nations nursing shortage, and also filling the recommendations of the IOM to further our education (ANA, 2017). Because of the recent changes in health care reform, more people now have access to health care, and this is also putting a great strain on our current health care system, and calling for more nurses (ANA, 2017). There are many negative consequences to this current problem, and will only get worse if not addressed, for the nurse and the patients we serve. The shortage can affect nurse by stressful work environments, fatigue, job dissatisfaction, increase in errors, and not providing quality health care, leaving patients to suffer (ANA, 2017).
