Initiating relationships is one of the most complex parts of relationship development! You have two options to pick from to complete this discussion assignment. 

OPTION 1: Initiating a relationship while using supportive communication. 

It is hard to initiate a new relationship with another as a friend, partner, or someone you see frequently in the same places. So, through the following activity, you must use positive communication to build a new relationship with another person and try using supportive, positive language practices to initiate it.

Activity: Approach another you do not know yet and ask them a question to prompt a response.

Such as,

 I like your smile.

 What is your dog's name?

 Do you live around here?

Also, make sure you say something positive and supportive to the other person.

OPTION 2: 

Pick a step in Knapp's Relationship Model and apply it to a current relationship in your life. You can use any part of the model, either Coming Together or Coming Apart. 

For both options: Write a reaction to your experience with examples of how you exhibited the communication for this assignment.
