1-Explain the role played by scholastic and familial networks in the Shia revival in Lebanon.

2-Explain how different interpretations of historical events, e.g. the conflict over the succession of Mohammed and Karabala, impact Sunni and Shia Islamists’ views on the political role of women.

The  paper (8-10 pages) should address a research question. In other words, the paper must be analytical not only descriptive. Students need to make arguments supported by evidence not just personal statements. Students can only use academic sources (books and journal articles). They should consult at least 7 academic sources in writing the final paper.
