CHFD350 I001 Spring 2026
In this assignment, you will review an existing Family Life Education
Program (not an organization, website, etc.). Please read the

parenting as the focus) to review and evaluate. This may be a
program within your local community or you may conduct a search for
one online. You must present your review using a PowerPoint

the following areas with more information than just what is on
the program website (Sources cannot be older than 10 years):
Program
1. Title: Name of the Program or Organization.

program (e.g. website) - if I can't verify your program is a
family life education program, it won't count as a program.
Need
1. Purpose: What need is your program designed to meet? (e.g.,
relationship education, sex education, bullying prevention,
etc.).

the program's outcomes? Discuss a few.
Outputs

outcomes)
2. What does the program ultimately want to change as a result of
the activities (long-term outcomes)?
Critique
1. How would you rate this program on a scale of 1-5, with 5
being highly effective? Why this rating?
2. Areas that are favorable: Provide some positive aspects of the

Week 2 Philosophy Statement - Due May 17, 2026 11:55 PM
CHFD350 I001 Spring 2026
After completing this week's readings, please respond to the questions
below. Create your philosophy statement in a word document and
upload the document as an attachment. Your response must be
between 500-600 words and be supported by 2 APA formatted
references with corresponding citations (academic peer-reviewed
journal articles only - no websites or class resources - Sources cannot
be older than 10 years). Please see the grading below.
Building a working philosophy statement of family life
education. (Note: this assignment is taken from the Required Reading
listed below.)
Follow the guidelines below and design your own working philosophy
of family life education. Address the questions in your discussion.
(Duncan, S. F., & Goddard, H. W. 2011 p. 24)
• What are my beliefs about the family and the nature and quality of
family life and the human experience?
• What is a "family" (provide an objective, not subjective, definition)?
How important are families? What values do I hold regarding families
and the human experience? What does it mean to be human?
• What are my beliefs about the purpose of FLE?
• What is the nature of FLE? What value does FLE have in com-

munities? Is it to provide insight, skills, and knowledge? Is it to
change behavior? How "interventionist" should FLE be?
• What are my beliefs about the content of FLE?
• Of what value is university-based theory and research to families? Of
what value is the lived experience of individuals, families, and
communities, and how can it become part of the content of FLE? How
do my personal values regarding families and the human experience
influence the content I select?
• What are my beliefs about the process of learning for families in
outreach settings?
• How do individuals and families learn most effectively? What
teaching strategies have the greatest impact? How important are
learning goals and evaluation in these processes? What assumptions
do I hold about learners?
Remember: a philosophy statement IS NOT simply a series of
questions and answers - see the philosophy statement link in the
second sentence of the assignment instructions for guidance on how to
write an effective philosophy statement.

Week 7 Parent Education 101 - Due Jun 21, 2026 11:55 PM
CHFD350 I001 Spring 2026
Design a Proposal for a Family Life Education Experience (Be
sure to include each of the elements listed below).
Remember, you should construct this proposal like you're
presenting it to potential funders. As such, be thorough
(program overview, specifics about how the program will
operate, specific outcomes and activities, a realistic funding
plan, and a realistic assessment plan based upon what you've
learned in this course). Your proposal should be written in
essay format - do not use a list of bullet points.
Choose one of the 10 FLE content areas, and design an educational
program that addresses that area (remember, this assignment should
be submitted as an actual proposal, not simply a series of
questions/answers). Don't forget, you must defend your decisions
with empirical support. The 10 Family Life Education content areas can
be found here. Provide a description of program, including these
topics:
What FLE content area are you addressing?
Of all the needs that families and individual have, why did you
choose this topic?
Why do you feel there is a need for this kind of program
(provide data to support this need)?
Provide a program overview.

Can you point to any similar existing programs (you must
discuss at least one)? How will yours be different or better?
Goals of the Program: what do you hope participants gain by
participating? Remember, goals must be specific and
measurable.
Target audience: families, kids, teachers, siblings?
Why do you think this is the right audience?
Format: face-to-face meetings (one or more?), online, phone,
booklet, blog, newsletter, video?
Why do you think this is the right format? Provide
research to support this decision.
What topics will you cover? Provide research to support their
inclusion?
What kinds of people can you enlist to help you make this
program stronger?
What kind of funding will you need? Who might provide that
funding? You cannot say you'll use grants or government
support. This must be a realistic funding plan.
What do you think the strengths of your program will be? What
will the weaknesses be?
After the program is over, how will you assess if it met its
goals?
Be sure your paper is between 1200-1300 words (no more, no less),
uses at least 3 academic journal articles as support, and is formatted
in APA style. Sources cannot be older than 10 years.
Please see the grading rubric for information on how your assignment will be graded.
