Overview

1. (25 points) A retail store manager wants to allocate more staff training on the most common inquiry. The store tracks the number of customer inquiries received in one day:

  • 40 inquiries about product availability
  • 25 inquiries about pricing
  • 20 inquiries about returns
  • 15 inquiries about shipping

Answer the following:

  1. Calculate the probability that a randomly selected inquiry is about product availability. (5 pts)
  2. Calculate the probability that a randomly selected inquiry is about pricing. (5 pts)
  3. Calculate the probability that a randomly selected inquiry is about returns. (5 pts)
  4. Calculate the probability that a randomly selected inquiry is about shipping. (5 pts)
  5. Based on these probabilities, which area should the manager prioritize for staff training? Support your answer with your probability findings. (5 pts)

2. (25 points) A sales manager wants to decide which team is performing better. The company tracks the number of sales calls completed per day by two teams over one week:

  • Team A: 10, 12, 14, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22
  • Team B: 8, 10, 10, 12, 12, 16, 18, 20, 20

Answer the following:

  1. Find the mean, median, and mode for Team A. Show your math calculation for each. (10 pts)
  2. Find the mean, median, and mode for Team B. Show your math calculation for each. (10 pts)
  3. Compare the two sets of statistics and decide which team is performing better. Explain your reasoning. (5 pts)
