English 1010 Causal Claim Paper Guidelines
Length: minimum 1000 words, which translates to roughly 3 full pages using a recommended font
(if in doubt, use the word count).
Format: MLA format: heading as described in class, 1” margins, no extra space between paragraphs, 12-point font size. Recommended fonts: Times New Roman, Calibri, or Arial.
Topics: choose one of the following prompts:
1) What are the causes of cyber-bullying? Why do some people become cyber-bullies?
2) What are the effects on college students of working while taking classes?
3) What are the causes or effects (choose one) of “Quiet Quitting” on either the American work force or American businesses (choose one)?
4) Another causal claim of your choice. This topic option requires instructor approval. Just talk to me about what causal claim you’d like to make.
Sources: Any and all sources you reference must be documented in MLA format.
Everyone must use and document at least one source.
Do not commit plagiarism by failing to document all sources. Plagiarized work will receive a grade of F. A second offense will result in failing the course.
During the Writing Process: A working bibliography will be assigned during the writing
process, as noted in the syllabus. This is a separate grade from the paper itself.
All students are encouraged, but not required, to submit a draft of the paper to the ThinkingStorm tutors in the writing center. There is a link on the myLearning class home page to learn more about the ThinkingStorm program and start your submission. Keep in mind that it takes 18-48 hours to get feedback to use in making revisions.
Final Due Date: The paper will be due on Thursday, October 26, 2023.
