For this assignment, you are to write 5 pages and for critical book review of Carrie that accomplishes the following tasks:

Format: MLA. Double spaced, 1 inch margins, 12 point font, title, stapled in the corner, no title page, no justification, no extra spacing. Correct heading, name info. Citations are a must, as is a works cited page. Quotes must be accurately incorporated.

• Provides a critical interpretation and evaluation of the text
• Includes an evaluation that attempts to convince readers whether they should

or should not read the book, despite the fact it is a horror novel.
• Incorporates a thesis
• Uses topic sentences as claims and following sentences as evidence
• Provides commentary on the relationship between plot and character
• Explains the function of the different important settings in the text
• Explains either the qualities or the problems with the points of view of the narrator
• Breaks down the symbols of the text and how they relate to the other literary elements
• Explains how the text may or may not represent some of the ideas we explored early in the class (Horror, Terror, Abject, Anxiety, Monster, Represssion, etc.) (we will discuss this further.)
• Makes a final judgment about who might enjoy the book, who might not enjoy the book, and if you can reccomend it.
• Your essay should make an attempt at distinguishing between Implict Meaning and Explicit Meaning.
