In academic and professional environments, the ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and credible manner is essential. Doctoral-level writing is not just about sounding academic; rather, it requires a clear idea of your audience, academic voice and tone, evidence-based reasoning, and synthesis of ideas. 

This discussion invites you to critically evaluate what doctoral-level communication looks like, both in the classroom and in the field. You will be asked to read and analyze writing samples and consider how various forms of communication can be improved, as well as how you can use these ideas in your own writing and presentations.

For this discussion, choose at least two of the following writing samples, one from the discussion examples and one from the email examples.

Discussion Example 1 I chose

Critical thinking is super important when you are doing a doctorate. It basically means not just believing everything you read, but asking questions and digging deeper. In my master’s program; I mostly just summarized articles and didn’t really think about them too much. Now I find that I’m supposed to put ideas together and think more about what they mean.

I still have a hard time figuring out what the author is assuming or what’s missing from their research. I watched a video that gave me some good questions to ask when I read articles. It showed examples, and I think using those questions will help me write better papers and discussion posts.

Email Example I Chose

Hi Steve

I was wondering about the report that was requested by me last week. It still hasn’t been received and we’re getting close to the deadline. I need it to finish my own work, and I can’t move forward without it.

If you could send it to me by the end of the business day tomorrow, that would be great. I really thought that it would have been done by now, especially since it had been brought up at the last meeting. I know you are busy, but things are being held up for everyone. I understand that unexpected challenges can arise, these should be communicated so a solution can be found.

Also, I think there were some issues in the last report you sent, like formatting, and missing data, so just be sure these are included. I know you are new to this, and this is a learning curve. This is professional writing, it is expected to be error free. Your attention to detail is so important, and so I appreciate
