Governance Duties

It is important to understand behaviors that create effective nonprofit governance boards, as well as ethical principles and practices. For this assignment, you will take a close look at some of these principles. The purpose of this assignment is to learn more about the principles of board governance.

Prior to beginning work on this assignment,

Read Chapter 4 in your textbook: Worth, M. J. (2021).  Nonprofit management: Principles and practices  (7th ed.). SAGE Publications.

· Choose three governance principles mentioned in The Search for Best Practices section, starting on page 104.

· Read   The Sarbanes-Oxley Act and Implications for Nonprofit Organizations Links to an external site. .

· Read   The Shifting Landscape for American Not-For-Profit Organizations: Good Governance Practices for 501(c)(3) Organizations: Should the IRS Become Further Involved? Links to an external site.

· Read  The Relationship Between Sarbanes-Oxley Policies and Donor Advisories in Nonprofit Organizations Links to an external site. .

In your paper,

· Identify the three governance principles you chose.

· Describe each of the three principles in detail.

· Discuss the importance of having a board that is made up of people with different cultural backgrounds.

· Discuss one of the provisions of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and how it applies to nonprofits and board governance.

The Governance Duties paper

· Must be three to five double-spaced pages in length (not including title and references pages) and formatted according to  APA Style Links to an external site.  as outlined in the Writing Center’s  APA Formatting for Microsoft Word Links to an external site.  resource.

· Must include a separate title pages with the following:

· Title of paper in bold font

· Space should appear between the title and the rest of the information on the title page.

· Student’s name

· Name of institution (The University of Arizona Global Campus)

· Course name and number

· Instructor’s name

· Due date

· Must include an introduction and conclusion paragraph. Your introduction paragraph needs to end with a clear thesis statement that indicates the purpose of your paper.
