RESUME PEER REVIEW
Introduction
The peer review critiques your resume as if a potential employer has received it for employment opportunities. The grading criteria is focused on job relevance, formatting, effectiveness, language, as well as education and training, which your resume provides well, showing experience in prior construction work as well as Health Care, expressing familiarity with compliance and inspections and a clear background in safety management.
Summary of Review Criteria and Research
Five areas of criteria were utilized in evaluating your resume, which are job relevance and targeting, formatting and readability, effectiveness given the objective, language used and education and certifications. These criteria were taken into consideration from Indeed.com, which is one of the nation’s largest hiring and employment websites that both large and small businesses utilize to attract top talent, and what job seekers utilize to find relevant job opportunities for themselves. Additionally, Harvard career guidance helped formulate the criteria with emphasis on tailoring the document, using action verbs and focusing on accomplishments other than responsibilities.
Review of Resume
REVIEW CRITERIA |
REVIEW COMMENTS (PRO & CON) |
|
1. Job relevance and targeting |
The resume is clearly targeting safety and contract oversight work, which is one of the greatest strengths of the resume overall, as it aligns perfectly to the target objective. This is extremely helpful if you are targeting one specific dream job type situation or have a very specific job that you are trying to obtain. That being said, the objective shows the target job, but also provide a statement about the overall value you are bringing to the table, showing off your experience in construction safety, federal facility support, and compliance also. |
|
2. Formatting and Readability |
Your resume contains the primary portions that employers have come to expect, aiding in the document feeling complete and more acceptable, but, the formatting itself could be improved upon. There is an unneeded gap between your first work experience and the major duties that are included. This format does not happen again under the Construction Control Representative role, which detracts from consistency and maybe adds confusion and speculation. Under Education, perhaps consider moving the dates of your degrees underneath their data entry, as the space gapping may make your resume harder to scan quickly (Indeed, 2025.) Remember, most recruiters spend 10-15 seconds checking each resume towards a position, if that. |
|
3. Summary and objective effectiveness |
The objective identifies a target position, which helps translate your direct intent and position and reason for applying. What could be done differently here is also providing a comprehensive professional summary, which aids in employers helping to comprehend who you exactly are in terms of what you bring to the table for their company as well as years of experience and any certs or clearances that you might hold right off the bat (Indeed, 2025). This helps recruiters skim and see immediately what they are targeting for a solid hire, which presents even more opportunity for your resume to not be overlooked. |
|
4. Experience and accomplishment language |
The experience expressed in the resume remains extremely on target, clearly showing expertise in the subject matters of safety, risk, oversight, review and development of policy, which are incredibly effective for the present role which you are pursuing. One area of improvement that could be taken into consideration here is how the information itself is communicated. Phrases that introduce with “responsible for” and “major duties include” could become more assertive if instead they used strong action verbs that show achievable outcomes, as suggested by Harvard’s Division of Continuing Education (2025), the Indeed Editorial Team (2025) and Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences Mignone Center for Career Success, (n.d.). You are potentially missing a great opportunity to reflect achievements in your work bullets that create a very persuasive impact in your experience history, as opposed to just citing off what your cut and dry work responsibilities were. |
|
5. Training, Education and Supporting Qualifications |
The extensive OSHA and NAVFAC related education and training are extremely helpful here for the role you are targeting and present a clear edge above your applicant competition and peers. The Secret clearance being presented also is the perfect way to shine because it is a certification that gives you that competitive edge when it comes to meaningful contractor and federal roles. The improvement which could be presented here is in the education and training sections, which could be presented more consistently and clearly, especially with the dates, by narrowing the gap which recruiters and hiring managers would need to line them up to your degrees, cutting down their eye skimming time (Indeed, 2025). This is a very slight improvement, but the less time anyone reading your resume has to spend, the better. Another would be considered renaming “Other Information” to something more impactful like “Community Involvement” or “Volunteering Efforts” to show that you are a well-rounded professional who actively participates in the community and serves the community at large in a positive and professional manner. |
Conclusion
All in all, the strong experience and alignment with construction safety is demonstrated very effectively in your resume. The field and target position which you are applying for is a direct matchup with the content that is presented inside the resume. Your resume will make an even bigger and better impression as well as leave a lasting impact with recruiting and hiring managers if slight revisions to accomplishment focused bullets are made, minor revisions to formatting, specifically to the education dates are included, and inserting a strong professional summary at the beginning also. The experience in the resume is fantastic, the main improvements that could be made is how that experience could be better communicated on the page. Great job!
