1. Most Important Concepts for Me

The most meaningful concepts for me in this course were ethical AI, human-centered automation, and AI as a decision-support tool rather than a replacement for people. Coming from a background in sustainability, climate awareness, and leadership, I strongly believe that technology should enhance human potential, not erase it.

Learning about AI subfields like machine learning, NLP, and computer vision helped me understand how deeply AI is already shaping business operations. What stood out most is how powerful AI can be when used responsibly to improve efficiency, safety, and equity rather than just profits. This course also strengthened my understanding of how leaders must consider ethics, transparency, and workforce impact when implementing new technology.

2. Where AI Is Taking Business and Society

I believe the future will be a blended path between utopia and dystopia, but leaning more toward a realistic middle ground. AI has the power to improve healthcare, sustainability, accessibility, and productivity. However, without strong ethical frameworks and responsible leadership, it can also increase inequality, surveillance, and job displacement.

The direction we move in depends on human choices, not the technology itself. If businesses prioritize people, transparency, and long-term impact, AI can help build a more efficient and compassionate society. If we chase speed and profit without accountability, the risks will grow.

I believe we still have the opportunity to shape AI as a tool for progress, but only if we remain intentional, ethical, and human-focused in how we use it.

AI, in general, makes me extremely apprehensive; its scope and reach have unlimited potential. I’m not sure humans are ready to have that level of knowledge at their fingertips. There is such a significant opportunity for AI to be helpful, as we heard in the medical field and in analytics, but where does it stop? AI is going to change business and society through its conveniences, and people will get lazy. If we have algorithms showing us things we talk about or mention shopping for, where’s the human chance to learn more or be exposed to new things and experiences? I suppose that means I lean towards a dystopian prediction for the world’s future. Given current world events, I don’t see individuals in power using it for good. I hope I’m wrong. It would be wonderful to see the utopian future where knowledge is shared freely, the elderly are looked after, and problems are solved before they become irreversible.

I know it’s elementary, but I enjoyed learning about AI’s subfields. I assumed AI like ChatGPT and Gemini were just more active/accurate search engines that you could continue questioning. Learning that different types of AI learn in various ways was interesting to me. I don’t have much use for AI in my job at the moment, but I see how it would be beneficial for data analysis in the near future. I actually think most of my career field could eventually be executed by AI, specifically machine learning.
