A Painted House tells the story of a 7-year-old farm boy Luke Chandler during
the six-week cotton picking season on his grandparents farm in Arkansas in
1952.
Luke sees and hears things that no 7-year-old could be prepared for and finds
himself keeping secrets that threaten the crop and will change the lives of the
Chandler's forever.
Many of the secrets pertain to racism or discrimination of one kind or
another.The story tell of the many prejudices and cultural barriers regarding
the Mexican farm workers and the people who came down from the Ozark
Mountains to help harvest the cotton crop.
