From our brief research assignment, we saw that there are many aspects of the first amendment that are controversial. The essay will be a position paper, offering a position on a specific issue under the broad topic of freedom of speech.

For this essay, you will be writing an argument paper on:

· Book censorship

For example, if arguing against book censorship, a student would need to argue that all censorship is against the first amendment, including censorship in elementary schools. It is up to you to decide the position and the approach you will take to the topic. These are open topics to allow you to modify them to your interest, but regardless of personal belief, the essay needs to have a clear position.

The essay will be 4-6 pages in length, typed, double spaced, following MLA format. The minimum page requirement does not count the works cited page. Research is required. At least one source needs to be from EBSCO-host, and all sources need to be from the past five years; one source needs to be from the past year.
