biostratigraphy

One of the most useful fields of paleontology is biostratigraphy. Biostratigraphy is the science of using fossils to figure out how old a body of rock is. We can do this because different organisms lived at different times in the Earth's history. This exercise will also help you become more familiar with the geologic time scale and how scientists date rocks.
