Assignment: Pastoral Response to Lord Willing?

In real-life situations, such as in this book, you will be presented with different roles as the spiritual "professional." As you read Kelly,  Lord willing? Wrestling with God’s Role in My Child’s Death, you should differentiate between the roles of caregiving/comfort, spiritual formation, counseling, and spiritual direction. As the story progresses, each of those roles is needed at different times.

In a 4–5-page paper, identify at least one time each of the four roles was looked for by the family from an outsider (spiritual professional, extended family, friend, etc.) and/or would have been appropriate. You should finish this assignment by answering the family's question, in your personal theological view (supported by scripture), "Why did my son die?". This last piece of the assignment is your personal view of "Theodicy" (why do bad things happen if God is good?). This book has a particular viewpoint on theodicy that I am not necessarily espousing. The purpose of the book is to get YOU to wrestle with the question because you WILL have to deal with it at some point.
