Week 2 Discussion: Research Ethics

Prior to embarking on a research endeavor, in order to maintain ethical standards, the various disciplines involved in research will follow the guidelines for ensuring that the research proposed is being designed and conducted in an ethical manner.

After reading your materials on Research Ethics, please address the following:

1. Describe the research process that someone interested in research follows before they propose their research as well as the processes that they follow while they are conducting their research.  Why is it important that these processes be followed?  Explain.

2. Identify and describe three ethical problems in research and three safeguards for ensuring ethical research.

3. Do a web search of professional organizations in your chosen field (whatever field you plan on working in when you receive your degree).  Do they have a code of ethics?  If yes, provide the link to their code of ethics and provide a brief statement of how it ensures ethical research.
