❖ Approach: Decide between a personal or professional focus based on your comfort and site
preferences.
Tips for Writing:
1. Tell a Story: Include a beginning, middle, and end. Highlight significant experiences and their
impact on you.
2. State Your Goals: Explain how your experiences shaped your internship goals.
3. Avoid Restating Your CV: Instead, discuss the most important experiences and themes.
4. Future Aspirations: Share your future plans to help sites assess fit.
5. Organizing Theme: Use this to create a cohesive narrative for your entire set of works.
Practical Tips:
● Reframe the Task: Write as if explaining your goals to a friend.
● Brief Introduction: Share your background before graduate school in about 150 words.
● Graduate School Experiences: Focus on key experiences and your reactions to them.
● Conclude with Goals: Tie your experiences to your internship goals clearly and cohesively.
