Audience Analysis

Purpose:  Every technical and professional document should begin with audience analysis.  This assignment asks you to identify a company or any workplace that you are interested in. You will then complete an audience analysis focused on that company’s culture. If you choose, you may use this audience analysis as part of a future job applications assignment during Weeks 3 and 4.

Steps:

1)  Identify a company or any workplace that you may be interested in working at. Check out PCC’s job resourcespage for ideas.

2)  Using the Audience Profile Sheet provided by the instructor, fill in a description of that company or workplace as best you can.  Use the company website or perhaps an interview with someone who currently works there. You may need to skip over some of the prompts.  The important thing is to gather as much factual information about the company as possible.  What does the company value? Is the company formal or informal? See the Audience Profile Sheet for a complete list of questions.

3)  Write a 500 word memo to me presenting:

a)  what you discovered about the company during your research.

b)  how a job applicant might appeal to the company in a cover letter or job interview.
