Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Directions: The United States had been working on a secret project code named “The Manhattan Project”. While this project had nothing to do with New York, it had everything to do with a desire to end the war in the Pacific. Review the reading and assignments from this week and then respond to the following:

1. Discuss the events leading up to the decision to drop the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
2. Where there other options that Truman considered before he decided to use the atomic bomb?
3. Why were the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki selected as targets?
4. Describe the aftermath of the bombings.
