Athletes in Activism
Using both scholarly (academic) and non-scholarly (popular press) sources, graduate students will connect their chosen “case” to scholarly literature about sport and communication (at least two peer-reviewed articles) as well as popular press coverage of the case, at the time and today. It will connect their individual case to the larger issues that transcend sport communication and its many intersections with society. It’s not just that Colin Kaepernick took a knee – what does that say about how we communicate about sport, and society at large?
