Graded Assignment #4: Favorite Piece Analysis

 

For our last graded assignment, rather than write another essay, you’re going to analyze your favorite piece of music from Week 1 using terms that you’ve learned in class. To complete this assignment, you will have to write a detailed listening guide similar to the ones in your textbook. Please see bulleted list below for details.

 Create a Word Document that has the following:

•   A YouTube link containing your favorite recording

•   A detailed listening guide that contains at least 5 comments on the track, detailing exactly what you hear and when you hear it using musical terms learned in class: melody, harmony, timbre, tempo, dynamics, tonality, rhythm, beat, form, texture, meter etc. 

•   Each comment should have a minute and second marker saying where it happens in the track. For example, at 1:35 the guitar starts playing chords forming the accompaniment or harmony

 The assignment is due by Sunday midnight.

Rubric:

•   Uploads a Word document including the details listed above into this assignment ….…..15 pts

•   Correctly utilizes music vocabulary terms to describe what is heard at specific moments
