Assignment

For this assignment, you will be using some of the tools we've learned in class as well as the theoretical principles you've learned from your readings to create your own "digital artifact." This project should be multimodal, and at minimum use the following:

  • TEXT. There is no word count for this, but the text should inform the rest of the artifact in some way.
  • VISUAL IMAGERY.  Your artifact should be visually stimulating with the use of pictures, video, or other visual elements beyond text.
  • AUDIO. You should create audio elements to complement the visuals and text.
  • ATTENTION TO DELIVERY. Be sure to follow the core information design principles we have discussed, as well as those found in your reading.
  • You are not required, at this point, to be concerned too much with INTERACTIVITY. Bonus points may be awarded, however, if this is incorporated well enough.

Some examples of Digital Artifacts you could create are:

  • A Website.
  • A Video Game.
  • A Youtube Video.
  • A Digital Poem.
  • A piece of software (that incorporates the above elements)
  • A series of Vine-like clips, publicly shared on social media.
  • Almost anything else!

While it is difficult to put requirements like page count or word count onto multimodal texts, the amount of labor that goes into this artifact should be the equivalent of around 30 hours of work, per person involved. If I feel that your artifact does not illustrate this amount of labor, I will require you to revise it until it is adequate to receive any credit whatsoever--while you are completing future assignments! As such, it would be best for you (and for me) to put the requisite amount of labor into this now, or grades will likely suffer.
