Directions: Tell a story about a time in your life when you experienced great success. Follow the steps below to compose the first draft of your narrative:

  1. Create an Opening Paragraph - The opening paragraph should capture attention and lead the reader into the story. Review the strategies for beginning your narrative on page 139 of your text, and then create your opening paragraph. Start with a sentence that uses one of the strategies reviewed on page 139 of your text, and then write at least five more sentences to continue to introduce your story.
  2. Create Middle Paragraphs - Review page 135 of your text before you begin writing your middle paragraphs. As you write your middle paragraphs, include action, description, and dialogue. Use the narrative elements from page 135 of your text to build suspense until the story reaches its most exciting moment. Finally, use some of the transition words listed on page 140 of your text to move the story along in time order. Create at least three middle paragraphs that consist of at least five sentences each.
  3. Create a Closing Paragraph - The closing paragraph should explain the outcome of the narrative. Consider the strategies listed on page 141 of your text, and create the closing paragraph for your narrative essay. Once again, you should have at least five sentences written for your closing paragraph.
