Compare and contrast Masaccio's Holy Trinity (1425) and Paul Gauguin's Vision After the Sermon (1888). Using the vocabulary introduced in your textbook, discuss each artist's use of line, space, and color. How would you describe the lines used by each artist, and what kinds of expressive qualities do those lines have? Do the artists employ convincing space, such as one- or two-point perspective, or is the space manipulated to achieve a different effect? What role does color play in the painting and its overall effect? (Both paintings are pictured below - Masaccio's painting is first, and Gauguin's is second - but a quick Google Image search will yield larger images if you're interested in seeing more detail.)
